8/31 & 9/1 -- Coming Home

We left Flores around 11 am pm 8/31 and landed in Bali, where we collected the luggage we had left behind so that we would not run afoul of the airlines limited weight limits. That gave us about a half day today to wander around, as well as tomorrow because our plane home doesn't leave til mid-afternoon. We did a bit more shopping -- I bought 2 sarongs that will become dresses or shirts probably. I had hoped to find reasonably priced salt water pearls too, but no such luck. Our major accomplishment was re-packing all the luggage.

Tuesday, we wandered along the beach for a about an hour, and found a few more interesting shells. We now have shells and sand from the north and south shores of Bali (totally different look) as well as sand from a pink beach on Komodo Island. There were a lot of boats and people learning to surf.

The tide was coming in as we started out and I wondered out loud if the water I saw on the brick path was from the ocean or from cleaning efforts. On our way back to the hotel, we got the answer: the ocean. We were walking along the top of a breakwater right by the front of several hotels when an extra big wave startled us - our shoes and the bottom my capris got wet! Lucky thing we had spare plastic bags to wrap things in.

We got to San Francisco about a half hour late (9 pm) and after immigration and customs and Erika picking us up in our car, got home by 10:45. Given the 15 hour time zone difference between here and there, that amounts to about 31 hours since we got up at 6:30 am on 9/1 in Bali. Time for bed!
