Croatian Adventure Begins!

Our flights to Zagreb, Croatia, got us there on time for the start of our next adventure. With all the snow across the US and Europe, we had been checking the success of our scheduled flights for a week or so, and everything looked like it should work. Then we arrived in Minneapolis, our first stop, and discovered our plane to Paris had mechanical problems! Fortunately, even though we left Minneapolis an hour late, we were only 15 minutes late getting into Paris and made it to our final flight with 5-10 minutes to spare and arrived in Zagreb before noon here (before 3am in SF!)

We are staying at the Palace Hotel, a nice old place close to the city center. This is the view from our window. We took a walk outside to get a flavor of the area and came right back in --needed warmer clothes, hats, gloves!  It's below freezing and I have become a TOTAL California weeny about it! Even with the extra layers, my nose felt like it was going to freeze off and my fingers got too chilled after only an hour, so we gave it up to come back and clean up.

We did get to see some of the old city, including a couple interesting (and unlabeled) statues of women. There is a pedestrian-only area with lots of bars and restaurants too. Too bad it is so darn cold! Tomorrow, we drive to the coast and board our boat. Weather there should be more like we are used to back home. If not, this could be a REALLY chilly trip!

  2. Sorry -- no idea. We just thought they were interesting since most statues are of famous men...
