7/19 & 20 -- Transfer to Nairobi

Since our plane didn't leave til 2pm, we had a lazy morning and heard the story of David Livingstone from a local expert. As we headed out to the airport, the driver pulled off the road and we discovered that only 2nd gear worked on the van. OOPS! Within a half hour, we had another bus and the luggage trailer transferred and were back on our way.

We took off and landed on time, but due to flight schedules, could not connect to Nairobi on the 19th, so it was back to the Protea Hotel near the airport for another night. Zimbabwe rules allow flights from Victoria Falls to only go to Johannesburg (our destination) or the capitol, Harare.

Our 4 hour flight to Nairobi was uneventful and we passed thru immigration in record time. What had taken an hour or more in South Africa took maybe as much as 10 minutes here. Our hotel abuts a new National Park that we can't walk in due to the type of animals. It is sort of close to the airport, but otherwise not centrally located. On the plus side, it is actual a suite with a living room and small bedroom, but it is maybe a 2 star in quality -- it appears clean but dated. The other downside is the lack of a window in the bedroom. We are only here two nights before going out to the tented camps, so no big deal.
