9/11 -- Catching Up

Today was definitely calmer than the last few. We did what we could to help the kids get off to school and the grownups to work, then caught up on the computers, did laundry, and ransacked our big suitcase to start the process of packing for Morocco. We made a run to Costco and CVS for trip stuff we were short on and hung out with Smoke. Later we took him for a walk around the little lake here and I gave him some remedial lessons on walking properly on a leash.

Grampa Jim with Dahlia and Davin -- hard to tell
who is winning.
When the kids got home, there was a rousing game of "attack grampa" that generated lots of noise and giggles. I got involved in the fray for a bit, hefting Davin upside down, but a 4-year old is way heavier than the 2-year old I normally toss around, so that ended fast.  Later, Dahlia tried to teach me chess (I hated it as a kid and am no better now) and gave up to play a game of checkers, which was a draw because dinner arrived before the game's end.

After dinner we got introduced to our latest responsibility: supervising the removal of any non-tree vegetation in the yard (with the inevitable exceptions) tomorrow because neither Dan nor Diane are going to be available after all. We reviewed their landscape design and it looks like a major improvement over the current arrangement, which has a winding gravel driveway around the front of the house to the garage -- it was really kind of scary last winter when we visited and it was horribly icy. It will be totally removed and replaced with a more manageable parking pad behind the house.
