9/7 -- Family Day in Madison

Kristen, Jerry, Jim, and I drove up to Madison to spend the afternoon with my niece Carla and her boyfriend Andy. After appetizers at her apartment and a lovely brunch, we walked to the capitol building and climbed up to the top for the view, then visited both lakes in Madison, Mendota and Monona.

Carla's apartment is conveniently located on the isthmus between the two lakes and reasonable walking distance of the capitol and UW Campus. Before going back to her home and our car, we ended up on Monona Terrace, a building I had been hoping to see. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930's as a civic center and shelved until the project was resurrected in the 1990s and completed in 1997. We didn't explore the interior, but the rooftop terrace was totally lovely.
